Menyelam
Without a doubt, the most stunning feature of Padang as a coastal area is the abundance of marine life, with both the quantity and the bio-diversity.
An annual plankton bloom usually occurs from December to April and, although the visibility can be reduced, the marine activity on the reefs is greatly intensified. Furthermore, these nutrients attract some of impressive sea creatures. Close sightings of creatures are literally a breathtaking experience.
The pristine islands along western coast of Padang City spread from north to south of the city. The islands can be clustered based on distance, namely far islands and near islands. The far islands include Air Island, Pandan Island, Toran Island, Sinyaru Island, Sibunta Island and Bindalang Island. The near islands are Sawo Island, Pisang Ketek Island, Pisang Gadang Island, Kasiak Island, Pasie Gadang Island, Setan Island, Pasumpahan Island, Ular Island, Sironjong Island, Sikuai Island and Sirandah Island. These islands have nice slope and white sandy beaches except the islands near the city of which the sands are invariably yellowish.
